Florence County Jail Roster Overview
The Florence County Sheriff's Office operates the Florence County Detention Center and publishes two main online access channels for inmate records. The Florence County Detention Center booking portal is the structured roster. It has Current and Released modes, and it lets users search by inmate name, charge description, or number of days. The FCSO inmate search feed is more card-based and photo-forward, with linked names, image areas, filters, pagination, and detail routes.
Florence County inmate records on the roster are booking records. They show jail custody and booking context. They do not prove guilt, and they do not replace the Florence Public Index for formal court charges. A person arrested by the City of Florence Police Department, a municipal agency, a state officer, or a sheriff's deputy can still be booked into FCDC. After sentencing to state prison, the search moves to the SCDC locator.
The FCSO inmate search landing page points readers into the public booking information source.
That landing page is useful when the direct booking portal is unavailable or when a mobile user starts at the sheriff's site.
Search Florence County Jail Inmates
Start with the booking portal when the goal is to look up Florence County inmates online. It is the most field-driven public source because it separates current custody from released records and lets users search by name, charge, or days. The FCSO feed should also be checked when a card-style result or photo field is needed.
- Open the booking portal and keep Current selected if the person may still be in jail.
- Use the Inmates tab and enter at least two letters of the name so autocomplete can suggest matches.
- Open View all inmates if the spelling is uncertain or if the search field does not return a clear match.
- Use Charges when only the alleged offense type is known.
- Use Days for a recent arrest window.
- Switch to Released and repeat the search when the person may have bonded out, been transferred, or left custody.
- Call the FCDC booking desk at 843-665-9944 for custody questions the public roster does not answer.
Florence County Roster Search Fields
The booking portal is unusual because it gives multiple ways to search Florence County inmate records. Name search is best when the person is known. Charge search helps when the arrest type is known. Days search helps with new bookings. Current and Released are separate modes, so an empty current result should not be read as no booking ever existed.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current / Released | Radio toggle | No | Current is default; Released changes roster and charge links. |
| Inmates / By name | Text autocomplete | No | Autocomplete begins at two characters. |
| Inmates Search | Button | No | Runs a name search. |
| View all inmates | Link | No | Opens current or released roster output. |
| Charges / By charge description | Text autocomplete | No | Searches charge labels such as DUI, burglary, contempt, drugs, and bond revoked. |
| Days / Over last number of days | Number input | No | Searches recent bookings across the chosen window. |
The current-inmates grid shows the roster output after selecting a current view.
The grid works best when paired with the search form because common names can produce similar entries.
Florence County Inmate Profile Fields
Public Florence County inmate records expose some fields directly and imply others through search modes. The FCSO card feed clearly displayed names, image areas, and detail links in the captured research. The booking portal showed current and released custody modes, name search, charge search, and recent booking search. Bond, housing, arresting agency, and detailed charge fields may appear in detail views, court records, or live jail systems, but they were not all confirmed in static search-form output.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | FCSO feed cards use a linked full-name heading. |
| Photo | A booking photo when available, or a missing-image placeholder. |
| Detail link | A per-card FCSO route for more information. |
| Custody mode | Current or Released is selected in the booking portal. |
| Charge description | Charge labels are searchable through the booking charge index. |
| Release status | Conveyed mainly through current versus released pages. |
| Booking number / inmate ID | Needed for mail formatting, though visibility varies by detail page. |
Florence County Custody Systems
The Florence County jail roster is for county jail custody. It is not the state prison locator, the federal inmate locator, or an immigration detainee locator. This distinction is important because a person can begin in FCDC after arrest and later move to SCDC after sentencing. A federal case may also move to U.S. Marshals or BOP custody, and an immigration hold may require ICE ODLS.
| Custody | Where to Look | Key Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Pretrial or local jail custody | FCDC booking portal and FCSO feed | Does not prove conviction. |
| Sentenced state prison | SCDC inmate search | Excludes county detainees and released SCDC offenders. |
| Federal custody | BOP inmate locator | No public mugshot gallery. |
| Immigration custody | ICE ODLS | Search by A-number/country or biographical data. |
| Victim notification | South Carolina VINELink | Notification tool, not a complete roster. |

Florence County Booking Process
Florence County booking begins when FCSO, a municipal police department, a state agency, or another law-enforcement agency brings a person to FCDC. Intake normally includes identity confirmation, custody transfer, search, property inventory, fingerprints, booking photo, charge entry, screening, classification review, phone access, and housing assignment. FCSO states that after the initial booking phase, an inmate is afforded free telephone calls from the booking area, and the recipient can accept or deny the call.
Booking records and court records then split. The booking record answers whether the jail accepted the person and whether the person is current or released. Court records answer what charges were filed, whether bond changed, and how the case ended. For court tracking after booking, use the Florence County court records after jail arrest page and the Florence Public Index.
Florence County Inmate Visitation Rules
FCDC visitation is non-contact video visitation. The sheriff's detention information says visits are scheduled through SmartInmate/Smart Communications and can be completed remotely by phone or computer. The detention center lobby has two free visitor kiosks, but visits still must be scheduled in advance. Visitation can be denied or restricted for disciplinary, administrative, safety, or security reasons.

Contact Florence County Inmates
FCDC uses Smart Communications for phone and video systems. Inmates in general population use tablets and unit phones for outgoing collect and debit calls. Incoming calls are not permitted. Calls are generally recorded and subject to review, except attorney calls. Calls are limited to 15 minutes, three-way calls are prohibited, and daily access is listed as 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. with Friday unit cleanup and safety exceptions.
| Mail or Call Type | Rule |
|---|---|

| Legal mail | Send directly to FCDC at 6719 Friendfield Road, Effingham, SC 29541; opened in the inmate's presence. |

Florence County Commissary Funds
Commissary for FCDC is through McDaniel Supply. FCSO points families to jaildeposits.com, jailpackstore.com, 1-800-822-9388, and a lobby kiosk for cash and credit-card deposits. The research did not locate a published FCSO fee schedule, so vendor fee screens should be reviewed before payment. Confirm custody first, especially when a person may have bonded out or moved to SCDC.
Note: Confirm current custody with FCDC before sending money, mail, or property tied to a specific inmate ID.
Request Florence County Inmate Records
When the roster does not show the record needed, use the FCSO public-records route instead of guessing from a search result. A request should identify the person, booking date or date range, booking number if known, incident or case number if known, and the exact record sought. Ask for the preferred delivery format and include contact information. South Carolina FOIA can cover booking records, photos, and other materials held by a public body, but FCSO may redact or deny information when an exemption applies.
Some record questions belong outside the jail. Formal charges, dispositions, court dates, and bench warrants belong in the Florence Public Index or Clerk of Court records. State criminal-history products are requested through SLED, and sentenced state custody belongs in SCDC. That access chain keeps Florence County inmate records from being mixed with court, prison, federal, or immigration records.
